Going To The Movies.....

I suppose this morning's post is appropriate since all we seem to be hearing about EVERYWHERE is this new Star Wars movie. I have a confession, I have NEVER seen ANY of the Star Wars movies, not one minute of any of them. I am not a science fiction/space/alien kind of a movie guy, therefore I rarely see a movie containing any or all of those themes. I really have no interest in it at all...perhaps I am missing out on something, perhaps not. On to my post:

A question to all the beach bums here on "Bored at the Beach", Have you ever gone to a movie that was so bad that you walked out before it was over? If you have never walked out on a movie, what movie/movies were you just busting to walk out on but couldn't for some reason, maybe because you were with a group of friends/date that was enjoying the film. I am looking forward to hearing some of your stories.

I never actually got up and walked, but came close a few times. "Pulp Fiction" was the closest I ever came, I think I got up a few times and was primed to go, but didn't because I was with friends. "28 Days Later" was a close second. I have sat through many a chick flick too with girlfriends, you can't walk out on those or you'll pay the price at home. You just have to sit and smile and pretend it's an amazing movie. Put a little ice on your face to make them think you are touched by the love story and are all teary....hahaha

When I was younger and went to the movies with friends we'd do shit to entertain ourselves when the movie was boring. In most theatres now they give you the popcorn in that paper bag, not the bucket. The bucket was a staple back in the day. After we would eat all the popcorn, we'd go fill the bucket with water at the water fountain. We'd head back to our seat and dump it. The slope of the theatre used to make the water run all the way down, soaking everyone's feet. Nobody ever figured out where all the water was coming from, but it sure was funny to watch people scamper around.

Ok, I want to hear your movie stories......

Though I didn't actually walk out on either, I wanted to sooooooo badly. "Waiting to Exhale" (with Whitney Houston and that damn "Shoop, Shoop" song) and "Eyes Wide Shut." For the latter, I realized I'd never have that 3 hours of my life back.

But how can you dog "Pulp Fiction," CMac? That movie is a masterpiece! (Okay, not really, but still rates in my top 10 list.)

Muse! Good Morning! "Pulp Fiction" just did not do it for me.....I know people, for the most part, LOVE that film...I just never saw the brilliance in it....

Virgo, you are funny...yeah, I could see how you'd be kind of lost on Crow II without seeing 1! :)

LC, my anti-Star wars comrade!

I have never walked out on a movie, not that a few didn't deserve it. But wait -- "28 Days Later"? Come on, I thought that was pretty good.

My mom and dad walked out on Pulp Fiction..."Bring out the gimp."

When I'm in a movie I hate I just make fun of it. My husband was SO pissed at me for laughing at Keanu Reeves in the Matrix Reloaded. I think I was the only one in the theatre who was laughing, but COME ON! Who can take anything Keanu does seriously?

I didn't walk out b/c I rented it, but The Village was by far one of the worst movies I've ever seen in my life. I like M. Night's other stuff, so even after all the people I know told me it sucked, I still thought I'd decide for myself. Bad move.

28 Days Later, I agree, sucked bigtime. So did Cabin Fever or whatever it was called.

Never seen any of the Star Wars or even LOTR movies - not one minute. I did see the OLD Star Wars of course when I was a kid, but none of the 'new' ones.

SAW, now THAT's a good movie :op

Oh my God I thought I was the only one that didn't like Pulp Fiction. We actually did walk out on that movie and my friend yelled out "This Movie Sucks"! I never saw what was great about that movie either, man am I'm relieved!
I am not a big movie goer too much any more. Never got into the Star Wars thing either. I like comedy, drama and suspense. These people crack me up with those get-ups they wear. We are talking adults here. Gee what can we do tonite? Hey let's dress up in Star Wars garb and go to the premier! Get a grip people.
One time we were at the movies and this guy was looking for his friend after the movie started and instead of calling for him he yells out "PHONE CALL FOR LOU"! That's my big movie story. I have a friend that a couple of times we went to the movies and she insists on carrying on a conversation while the movie is in progress. I would have to do the Shhhh sign to her. One time a man turned around and told her to shut up. I felt like a teenager but we were in our 30's at the time.
CMac you were such a bad boy!

Well, um, my husbands best movie experience was during James and the Giant Peach, a kid's movie that we "saw" in the evening and we were the only ones in there. When you are the only ones in the theatre...well, um, ya know, "stuff" can happen...I think you might get my drift, no?

I hope you saw more than a Giant Peach! hahahahaha :)

I have to join the camp that HATED "Pulp Fiction". Maybe I'm a skeptic, but I bet a lot of people who say the film is a classic are basing that on someone else's (supposedly more knowledgeable) opinion . That movie was awful.

I WISH I'd walked out on "Apocalypse Now". I just found myself increasingly upset throughout the movie. I remembered a few years earlier, some guys I knew went to see "Deer Hunter". They were depressed for days afterward. I never saw that one, but it must have been a similar experience.

Mostly I rent movies now, so walking out isn't an issue. I can just turn it off, which I do fairly frequently. I won't give up two hours of my life to something which isn't at least offering some entertainment value.

I actually walked out of the first Star Wars movie! Well, I fell asleep and then my Dad had to partially carry me/walk me out.

Funny to come here and see you posting about Star Wars...I just did the same thing!

I walked out of "Eddie." Hands down, the most God-awful, ridiculous movie ever. I don't know what made me think it was going to be good - Whoopie Goldberg was in it.

I had to see Pulp Fiction three times before I really came to appreciate it. I wouldn't call it a "masterpiece," but it's good stuff.

Patrick - I was being a bit of a smartass when I called Pulp Fiction a "masterpiece." Like you, it took a few watchings before I appreciated it. In fact, the first 4 or so times I saw it, it was in bits and pieces, and I never saw more than about 20 minutes at a time. When I finally watched it as one movie and saw the vignettes come together, I really was impressed.

And no, I didn't jump on the director's bandwagon after watching one movie. I thought the Kill Bills were interesting (I saw them in reverse order), but nothing of cinematic greatness.

I LOVED Pulp Fiction and have seen it several times. I actually listened to the soundtrack on the way to the hospital to deliver my son, so it's very close to my heart. ;)

Anyway...I try not to see movies I think I'll hate, but I have walked out of one: The Fabulous Baker Boys. I was so bored I wanted to cry. Almost walked out of K-Pax because it was so stupid. And I got dragged to some stupid Sandra Bullock thing that I hated too.

I usually have a good sense going in...and can tell within in the first five minutes if I'm going to LOVE a film, too...

Boredom is the kiss of death for me. I cannot STAND to be bored!

I like the original Star Wars trilogy and you should see if only to enjoy Spaceballs, ahh I love that movie!

I have never walked out on a movie, as I will see anything once, even if it is bad, I am with Bridge...it is more fun to get your money's worth making fun of it!

I thought I was the only one who has never seen the Star Wars movies. It's good to know that there are normal people out there. LOL. With all this hoopla about the third installment and people camping out in front of theaters for days, I surely thought the end of the world was cooming!
