The Sequel

Are you ready to begin another long work week? I sure am not. But, I did make it to work and I am in my office wishing I was anywhere else in the world but here.

Looks as though the "Star Wars" hype is starting to wind down. I am sure most Star Wars fans have seen the final episode by now. I was thinking this morning about movies that have sequels. There are some movies that NEVER should have had sequels made, here are a few I thought of:

Weekend at Bernie's II- Parading a dead guy around wasn't that funny or believable the first time, they had to do this again?

Stayin' Alive- The sequel to Saturday Night Fever, absolutely HORRIBLE!

Jaws 3- Just one question, WHY???????

Rocky 5- What a shame.

Police Academy 2-7- same shit over and over.

What movies, in your opinion, should have never had a sequel?

Yes, I gotta go with the Friday the 13th franchise, as well! Can we start another category for films they've remade? It's a bad, bad, bad trend! Are there no original writers left in Tinseltown?

Yeah Jaws 3! "This time it's personal" - that tag line was too much! Sequels, umm I saw a little bit of Mission Impossible 2 yesterday and it sucked. I hear they are doing a third one now. Why Can't they just stop! Though I am psyched for the sequel to "Sixteen Candles"

back to the future II sucked. III was alright, but II should NEVER have been made.

Did anyone else know that they've made like 10 of those animated "Land Before Time" sequels? Y'know, the kid dinosaurs that get separated from their familes and they have to make it to the new, lush, green land? Yes, the first one was cute (I was like 8 when it came out), but was there ever a reason to make more? Yeah, not so much.

Hey! I actually liked the original "Weekend at Bernie's." :)

I thought Oceans 12 was pretty good - any movie with George Clooney, Brad Pitt & Matt Damon is gonna get watched by me even if they just sit there and baby talk to each other ;)

I'd have to agree with Friday the 13th, and Nightmare on Elm Street, that kinda shit.

Along those same lines, what about remakes of movies that had perfectly good original versions? What is it about Hollywood these days? Doesn't anyone have an original thought anymore? They dig up and redo old movies (most recently "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" - the original is a great movie, it's in color, what was the reason for the repeat??), or they drag out old long-running television sit-coms and turn them into feature-lenghth films ("Brady Bunch" "Beverly Hillbillies"). Even LESS likely to be watchable are the "Saturday Night Live" shorts turned into movies. "Pat" was more-or-less a sight gag - it was NEVER meant to be a movie.

I have to agree about the remakes too. Although Cape Fear with Robert Dinero was pretty good. He's pretty plieable. "You talkin' to me"?(I know that was Taxi Driver) I love him in anything.

What, you mean there is a Rocky V? That is pure jibberish (yes I choose to live in denial, thank you very much) I'm with Ocean's 12 as sucking and I too liked Weekend at Bernie's the original. Dumb and Dumberer was just a terrible idea.

The matrix should never have reproduced.

2 and 3 are oogly babies that should never have been born.

Also I agree that work sucks.

Worst remake I can think of was The Amityville Horror. The first one wasn't any good. If someone's going to do a remake, at least pick a good movie. High Society was every bit as good as The Philadelphia Story. I'm still not sure whether I prefer Grace Kally or Kate Hepburn in the lead.
